Chipmaker MediaTek is on expansion drive for its SoCs. The company now has announced MediaTek Dimensity 820 chipset with 5G support for mid-range smartphones. According to the company, the idea is that this chipset will further ease the 5G connection in mid-range smartphones.
MediaTek’s general business manager, Dr. Yenchi Lee, commented that the Redmi 10X will be the first device to feature the new processor:
Our Dimensity 1000 is already powering impressive top-of-the-line 5G smartphones in several markets. With the new Dimensity 820, we are now making 5G much more accessible to the public with less purchasing power.
MediaTek Dimensity 820 Features
Featuring 7 nm construction, the new processor is an octa-core with four high-performance Cortex-A76 cores and clocked at 2.6 GHz. The remaining cores are Cortex-A55 clocked at 2.0 GHz to offer good energy consumption.
The new Dimensity 820 allows manufacturers to build smartphones with 4 cameras up to 80 megapixels and screens that have a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz
This chipset also supports video recording with 4K resolution and also has optimization for games. When it comes to networks, the integrated modem allows access to 5G sub-6GHz frequencies in Asia, North America, and Europe.
