Install Windows Or Linux In VirtualBox

How To Install Linux or windows In VirtualBox With Easy Steps – On this occasion, I want to share a way where we can run two operating systems simultaneously without having to perform dual boot actions or install two boot operating systems on one computer/laptop. By using how to install windows in a virtual box, we can very easily install our windows operating system.

Virtualbox is a software or application that we can use to install additional operating systems on our main operating system. For example, we want to install the Windows XP operating system, but we have installed the Windows 7 operating system.

In the usual way, we will format the Windows 7 operating system first before we install the Windows XP operating system, but we use virtual software or applications. box so we can install the Windows XP operating system on the Windows 7 operating system without having to reformat our Windows 7 operating system.

In the picture above, I happen to install the Windows operating system on the Ubuntu Linux operating system, and when the windows operating system is run it runs smoothly like we are running an operating system on its own hard disk partition.

But before we go to the tutorial on how to install a Linux or Windows operating system on a virtual box, it’s good for newbie code news readers to know the advantages and disadvantages if we install a Windows or Linux operating system using a free application or software from this virtual box.

The advantages of using Virtualbox

There are many advantages with us installing our operating system on our computers by using this VirtualBox software application and these advantages are.

Save space

By using VirtualBox to install our operating system, we will save our hard disk, why is this because we don’t need to partition our hard drive just to install another operating system on our laptop or computer.

No hassle

Why because if we install another operating system by dual booting then we have to move to another operating system by restarting it. If in this way, we just have to run the VirtualBox application and we can run other operating systems without having to leave the operating system that we are currently using.

Easy to use

With the way we install the operating system on VirtualBox, we can easily use it, no need to bother removing the operating system and you won’t worry if the operating system that is in VirtualBox is deleted. Since this will not affect the performance of your computer, it is not like installing an operating system by dual booting.

The disadvantages of using VirtualBox

There are advantages, there must be deficiencies, right? Everything in this world will definitely not be as perfect as God’s creation. And by using the VirtualBox application, we will also feel significant shortcomings.

Takes up a lot of memory

By installing an operating system using VirtualBox, we will share the memory of our laptop/computer with the operating system in the virtual box. so if we use the Windows XP operating system then we will install the operating system with the appropriate amount of memory according to the Windows XP operating system

Not free

This is because if we install an operating system on a virtual box application, then we have to also make settings which in my opinion are quite confusing for those of us who are new to this application to be as free as we are using an operating system on a dual boot system.

Not all applications are supported

Now, I have tried to run other applications from the existing partitions on my main operating system and it turns out that some programming applications cannot run like we use the operating system on its own partition.

How to install other operating systems on VirtualBox

And to install Windows XP on our Windows 7 operating system, what we need is the VirtualBox application itself, this virtual application is a freeware application that we can download at the following address.

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Please download and adjust it to the operating system that we are using today. After we download, you can install the VirtualBox application first before we will do the windows installation steps.

After you have finished installing the VirtualBox application, please run the virtual box application by clicking on the symbol of your virtual box.

Please press the “New” button or select the “Machine” menu, then we will be given a new popup window with the name “create virtual machine”. We can use this popup to name the operating system that we will install on VirtualBox later.

Fill in the name of the operating system that we want to install, the name doesn’t have to be the same, just adjust it to our wishes. and for the type, please adjust it to the type of operating system we use, namely Windows, and for the version you can also adjust the version that supports your Windows operating system. For example, if your PC supports 64 bits, install it with a system that supports 64 bits or if it’s 32, choose one that supports 32 bits.

If so, then we can press the next button and we will continue to the next stage. At the next stage, we can select the memory of our virtual machine and we can adjust it to the needs of the operating system that we will install in this virtual box application.

If we are sure of the amount of memory needed from the operating system that we want to install on the operating system, then we can press the next button to continue the next stage.

In the next stage, we will be asked to make arrangements for our storage media which we will use for the operating system that we will install in the virtual box application later. The application form VirtualBox will recommend to us the type of storage that we will use, but at this stage, we can also customize it to our liking.

In the virtual hard disk setup, there are 3 (three) options that can be used:

1. Do not add a virtual hard drive

This option is used for users who already know how to use this VirtualBox application, because the virtual hard disk will be created in separate settings and after the creation of the Windows virtual machine is complete.

2. Create a virtual hard drive now

This option is used to create a new virtual hard disk while creating a Windows virtual machine.

3. Use an existing virtual hard drive

Use this option to select an existing virtual hard disk.

At this stage, I will choose “Create virtual hard drive now” because we are here to create a hard drive partition directly which we will use to install our Windows operating system.

Create virtual hard drive now

If you have, we can go to the next stage by pressing the create button. and at the next stage, we have to choose the type of extension from the virtual hard disk file which we will use later to install the operating system in this VirtualBox application. The standard virtual box will suggest using VDI (Virtual box disk image). However, we can also choose a disk image with other extensions.

If you are sure, in the next step we will make further arrangements by pressing the next button. At this stage we will be asked how our virtual hard drive will be stored, here we will be given two choices, namely

In this section there are 2 (two) options to choose from:

1. Dynamically allocated

If we choose this, the hard drive capacity we use will be based on the capacity of the virtual hard drive we use and we set it earlier and does not depend on the capacity of the physical hard disk we have.

2. Fixed-size

If we choose this, the hard drive capacity is based on the capacity of our physical hard drive, so I suggest that we select the Dynamically allocated option, then press the Next button.

Dynamically allocated option

In the next step, it is useful to determine the name of the display and the name of the folder where we will store our virtual machine files. We can save an existing folder or directory, but we can also place it on another hard drive that is different from the hard drive that we use by our main operating system.

We can change and determine the hard drive capacity that we will use on our virtual machine on this screen. If we select the option “Dynamically allocated” then we can make our virtual hard disk capacity reach 2 tera.

Then we can press the create button for us to use to install the Windows operating system.

If we have finished carrying out the steps in the process above, a machine will appear with the name we specified earlier and in an empty state and ready to install the Windows operating system.

Install Windows on the VirtualBox Application

At this stage, we can install windows on this virtual box machine. Click the start button to run our virtual.

Now at this stage, we will install the operating system on our empty virtual machine. we can do with the following steps.

We can select the disk image that we will use to install the operating system that we will use at this stage. we can also install the operating system that we will use via DVD or cd that we have.

Press the up arrow to select the location of the disk image of the operating system that we will install and select the operating system that we will install in this virtual box application. and if so then we can press the next button and then we can install our windows operating system on the virtual box machine.

For the next stage, please install your Windows operating system in an existing way. And when it’s finished, please press the start button (arrow) to run the operating system that we have installed on our virtual box machine.

If we install the Linux operating system, we can perform the same steps as to how we install this windows operating system. the way is the same and not much different so we will have no difficulty installing the Linux operating system on the virtual box application.

That’s enough for my tutorial on  How to Install Windows / Linux on VirtualBox with Easy Steps, I hope the article I provide can help all of you in trying to install an operating system on this virtual box software application.
