Canon Cameras Can Now be Used as Webcam for Video Calls

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, videoconferencing services have become more widely used by quarantined people worldwide. In addition to the security concern, another point that started to be considered is the improvement in image quality.

To improve this type of use, Canon made available a beta version of the “EOS Webcam Utility”, a program intended for the use of the brand’s camera portfolio in computer video calls. However, currently, the software is available only for use in the US.

The software is available for Windows 10 and recognizes compatible devices by plugging into the USB port on the PC or notebook. According to the company, the use of Canon Cameras as a webcam will allow a high-quality image in conversations.

“In unprecedented times, it’s imperative for Canon to provide our customers with useful, simple, and accessible solutions to assist them in whatever imaging needs they have,” said Tatsuro “Tony” Kano, executive vice president of the Canon U.S.A., Inc. Imaging Technologies & Communications Group. “Our goal is that the EOS Webcam Utility Beta software can help reduce some of the remote workday stress for employees who are tasked with video conferencing and virtual meetings.”
